On the eve of the 15th August French bank holiday I’ve decided to whisk you off to Arcachon, a traditional and loved holiday resort on the beautiful Atlantic coast of France. For over 150 years now, tourists have been flocking to the exquisite Arcachon Bay bordered on one side by a blond crown of fine sand culminating at 104 metres: the famous Pilat Dune.
Arcachon, officially founded in May 1857 as a luxury resort, was one of the first venues to specialise in fitness holidays and was frequented by Spanish royalty, Russian Princes as well of many artists of the time including the unique albeit extravagant Sarah Bernhardt!
Whenever I drop anchor, I love to seek out one special souvenir that truly epitomises the essence of my stay and Arcachon is no exception with the discovery of “Ecume d’Arcachon” a deliciously vintage “eau de parfum” created in 1930 by herbalist Jean Bourdier in his traditional laboratory.
His inspiration of sea spray on warm sand and stolen kisses on salty tasting skin evokes not only the splendor but also the sensuality of this magnificent region. The fresh citrus notes that leave way to the subtle fragrance of oak moss makes “Ecume d’Arcachon” an ideal perfume for both men and women.
So, with my fortuitous find tucked away in my bag it’s now down to the serious business of relaxing! Have a great weekend!
